The Sambalpur town is one of the most famous city in westernOdisha. It is the western cultural capital of Odisha and it is world famous due to its unique culture and life style of Sambalpuri people .

HIRAKUD DAM –

It is one of the prominent multipurpose dam for irrigation and hydro-electric program and it was built during the 1^st five year plan – under the leadership – Jawaharlal Nehru . 

This dam is located at the south – western part of the Sambalpur town – near the Burla medical college . It is one of the most visited place in Sambalpur district . If you are interested to visit this dam – they you can also enjoy boating and tracking .

   SAMALESWARI TEMPLE -  

The Sambalpur town is named after in the name goddess Samaleswari . The western Odisha’s culture is mainly based of the Maa Samaleswari . People with love and affection called her Maa samalei .

 It is one of the prominent Shakti pitha in India . From the anicient time mother Samalei has been worshipped as kuladevi of sambalpur district or western Odisha . 

The Nuakhai festival of western odisha maily dedicated to the GoddessSamalei .  The temple is located near the Kshyetrajpur railway station of Sambalpur and it is only 3 km away from the station . This temple is located near the river bank of Mahanadi .  

Main festival of Samaei Temple –

Dasahara is one of the famous festival of Samalei temple – During the period of Dasahara – thousands people have been coming to this place . Another Festival is Nuakhai – festival of western Odiaha

Deer park of Sambalpur –

The deer park of Sambalpur is one of the wildlife heritage of Sambalpur district and it is a mini zoo of western Odisha . The Prak is spread over 40 Acre of land . around 300 numbers of bird and 30 animals are found in this zoo . 

 Thousands of visiter have been visiting this zoo every time . This park is located at the centre  of the Sambalpur town . Animals like Deer , Antelope , barking deer monkey , boar , peacock , dove etc are found in this small zoo .

Zero point –

It is one of the most common picnic spot of Sambalpur District .It is one of the most important part of Hirakud dam . It is the most visited site in the Hirakud dam , this site is 3 Km far away from the Burla Medical college of Sambalpur . 

This place remain crowdy during the new year time . This is a peaceful place to spent time .

Gandhi Minar –

For the broader view of the Dam a rope way is connected by two minar- One is Gandhi Minar and another is Jawahar Minar . The minar are present on the tower near the mountains .
